Producing an Embossed Picture
Image contains all the necessary parts to allow it to produce an
embossed picture - but currently the process is not automated.
Thus to produce an embossed picture follow the steps outlined below,
it is best to start Image anew so that everything is set up correctly.
1) First load the picture you wish to emboss into Image.
2) Bring up the Kernel Operation Control Window look through the list
of operations for the one named 'Edges W NW N' and select it.
3) Select the 'Run' icon to perform the operation.
4) Now bring up the 'Image Bank Control Window'. Select the input bank
to be bank 1, and the output bank to be bank 3.
5) Back at the Kernel Operation Control Window select the operation
called 'Edges E SE S' and then 'Run' that operation.
6) Back at the 'Image Bank Control Window' set the options as follows :
Input to bank 2
Output to bank 4
2nd Input to bank 3
7) Now bring up the 'Merge Banks Control Window' and select the
'Emboss' operation.
8) Now you need to decide on what background you want for the embossed
picture. You can either have a plain background (eg. mid grey), or you
can have another picture as the background. If you want a plain
background follow steps marked with (A), for a picture background
follow steps marked (B).
9)
(A) Only
Bring up the 'Colour Selection Window' and choose the colour you want
as the background (if it is not already defined, create it (see
'Colour' for details)). Note the colour number (0 to 15) of the colour
you require.
(B) Only
Bring up the 'Colour Selection Window' and choose a mid brightness
colour (eg. mid grey, red, etc) and set that as the Mask colour
(basically you want to avoid black or white masking).
10) (A) and (B)
In the 'Merge Banks Control Window' locate the writable icon at the
bottom of the window and enter "128,". Then follow that with :
(A) The colour number chosen in step 9.
(B) The value "-1"
11) Select the icon marked 'Merge'.
12)
If there is too much embossing (too much black and white) then perform
an 'Undo' and repeat from step 10 with a higher value instead of the 128
(you can go up to 255), if not enough embossing then use a lower value.
When you are happy move onto stage 13 (B) only; (A) is finished.
13) (B) only
Return to the 'Image Bank Control Window' at set the options as
follows :
Input to bank 5
Output to bank 6
2nd Input to bank 4
14) (B) only
Load the picture you wish to use as the background.
15) (B) only
If the background picture is a different size than the picture you
embossed you will need to resize it (see 'Resize' for details). You
can find out the size you need to make it by looking at the 'Image
Bank Control Window' (bank 4).
16) (B) only
On the 'Merge Banks Control Window' select the 'Over' option and
press the icon marked 'Merge'. You have now completed the Emboss
operation.
